Default right click mouse HOLD possible??

Hi, I'm getting a very sore hand from right click HOLDING to look around whilst running. I would love advice about a way to make the right mouse button auto-hold (e.g., I could click it once or double click or something to make it "stick down" so I don't have to keep it pressed the entire time).

Alternately, any other way to navigate without giving myself carpal tunnel? I realise I can use WASD, but I'm very clumsy left-handed.

Any and all advise appreciated!!

Robin

I don't think it takes that much energy to hold down a mouse button. If you are expending enough energy and giving yourself carpal tunnel by holding down the right click I suggest you stop and revise the way you are doing it. You are trying it too hard.

You don't need us to tell you that you're doing it wrong.

Don't grip your mouse tightly, avoid "palming" your mouse and hold it using your fingers.

This was the advice I was given with my Fatal1ty mouse and after 4/5 years using it, i'm yet to experience carpel tunnel (Only when I had to get Life of the Party....).

This seems relevant because you're clearly suffering from the playstyle you use, feeling more comfortable with controlling the camera a lot. WASD is a given, this isn't an FPS so you needn't worry about perfect movement. R is also default for Autorun. I'm left-handed and very orientated in that way, so I use lots of the keys during ze combat: tab, C,V, F, T (I've also bound Y for ping Heroes), ctrl, alt, esc, `,f1-f4, Q and E (strafing), numbers 1-5 AND Space :O.
It leaves my mouse hand to click skills and sometimes adjust the angle/zoom.

Z indeed lets you look behind you and also X turns you around 180 degrees.

All you need is a little practice

Gaming iz serious business.

I typically run while holding both left and right click buttons. It works well for me... just run forward, and face the direction you want to go in.

I hold down the W key with my left hand and basically steer with the mouse. I tried using the keyboard but I suck at it.

I'm left-handed and mouse with my dominant hand. I've never used WASD -- I use the arrow keys instead, and, like rkubik, use the mouse to "steer" and look around. Left/Right arrows strafe. Doing this, I only press the right mouse button when I need to turn. Are you keeping yours pressed for running as well as camera-look? Maybe try the arrow keys if WASD doesn't work for you.

Otherwise, yeah, something like Windows' built-in MouseKeys (Control Panel > Accessibility Options) might be worth looking into. Or maybe X-Mouse Button Control (freeware app).

Use a trackball

You will hate it for a day or so, tolerate it after a week then love it and never go back to a mouse.

Mine broke last week and am stuck using mouse till I get some cash together and with the mouse all the wrist pain and general aches I forgot about are back.
I forgot how bad the computer mouse is after 6 years of trackball use.

well since everyone else on this topic as told you your doing it wrong I'll answer it for you.

if you want to install autohotkey you can just use code:
Code:
SendMode Play
^RButton::MouseClick, R,,,,, D
make a new text file call it whatever you want but name it .ahk and not .txt then run it and there should be a green H in the task bar then whenever you press ctrl + rightclick it will hold down that right click until you right click again and it will be released (note this is in your whole computer not just guild wars) if you look in the help file at the key list you can change the hotkey to turn it on if you want

OK you all, thanks for the advice, MUCH of it was very helpful. I learned that I'm basically a big dumb noob. haha

I will practice more and try to relax. And thanks to Eluvatar for the code help, I might try it!

Boy do I feel like a gamer wannabe

For longer distances, just click the 'R' key instead of holding 'W' while using the right mouse button to steer. You can let up on the mouse button on straight shots.

Yeah get to use the WASD controls, even if it takes a bit of time.

For years I had represented my country in FPS gaming tournaments around the World, and used a specific setup of arrow keys on a particular keyboard. Having to change to a MMORPG game using WASD keys took time to get used to. Now I couldn't use anything else for Guildwars.

You didn't say what sort of mouse you are using. Some mice, particularly some cheap ones, require a lot more force to operate the buttons than other better mice. If this is the case, go to your local Staples or w/e and try out the buttons on some mice. Mice such as the Logitech MX series require very little pressure to operate -almost to the point where it takes more effort to not press the button.
If that's not the case though, there's always AutoHotKey, or other such apps.

haha sorry guys for giving you bad mouse karma! I'm using a Razer Deathadder 3500, so it's a nice one. It's totally technique. I've changed a bit based on suggestions and it's already better. I'm a lvl 8 first timer now, so it just takes a bit of time in the game to get the hang of it.
